Happy Monday, babes! Hope you had a wonderful weekend, mine was busy running errands and purchasing furniture for our house. I've had a lot of requests to share more about our new home, and I will definitely be sharing more from here on out. We moved in one month ago, and it feels like things are moving s-l-o-w, but today I feel better about the progress we've made. Over the weekend, we purchased quite a bit of furniture to fill the house (moving from a tiny apartment into a house means a lot of new furniture is needed!). It's fun to get all new stuff, but it's also a lot of work (and decision making), so we are trying to take it slow and go room by room. As far as home improvements go, we've painted the exterior, and refinished our hardwood floors. The painters will be moving to the interior this week, and to be honest I just can't wait for it to be done! We are on week FOUR of exterior work + paint, which seems like forever. I'm praying the inside doesn't take quite so long. We also ordered new carpet and a runner for the stairs which will be installed after the painters complete the inside. Anyway...onto the photos.
Here are the floors when we moved in - a honey blonde color, which was fine, but just not our taste.
Here were the colors we chose to test out (HIGHLY recommend doing this - the colors looked a lot different than they did on the samples). We liked the top two and the bottom the best.
We ended up going with the 2nd from the top (coffee brown). I'm really happy with the way they turned out, and will show more photos later - need to take more pictures of the floor.
This is pretty much how the floors look - dark brown, and I love them. Yes, that is toilet paper on the floor - measuring for our new chairs ;). When you can't find your painters tape, you improvise with what you've got on hand.
Exterior (work is still being done, lanterns need to be installed - please excuse the wires). We went with Benjamin Moore Kendall Charcoal for the wood siding, and Swiss Coffee for the trim.
We painted the front door black - I have wanted a black front door for as long as I can remember! This is the only place we are leaving the brass hardware - I love it against the black.
Moving on...furniture! Here's what we ordered over the weekend.
Sofa + two chairs for the living room - both from Restoration Hardware.
Rug (great deal for a large rug!)
Accent stool (will be placed between two RH chairs)
Console table - will go in entry. We needed something slim, and this is perfect (also a great deal!)
We ordered two of these lucite console tables to flank either side of the fireplace. We have so much wood in our home, I wanted to bring in some man-made elements to help create a better balance. We are still looking for mirrors to hang above, and baskets to put below to store blankets, pillows, etc.
We also ordered this sofa a few weeks ago, and received it last week for the den. I'm letting my hubby have complete design control of the den...wish me luck ;).
That's all for today! I'll be sure to keep you updated as we make more progress and furniture is delivered! Xx
