Body After Baby + My Fitness Plan

Good morning lovahs! Hope you all had a great weekend! Ours was pretty relaxed - we finally got out of the house, and hit the city for a bit on Sunday. This was my first "major" outing (other than running to the store/errands) since having Avery 2 weeks ago. We made a trip to Aroma Espresso for some amazing coffee + hot chocolate (best hot chocolate I've ever had). If you live in NYC, or are visiting, it's a must - there are multiple locations around the city.

Okay, on to the topic of today...body after baby.
One thing I feel like NOBODY tells you before you have a baby is this: You still look pregnant after you have your baby. I know - WTF. This is not something you want to hear. Every woman's body is different, and the amount of weight you gained during pregnancy also plays a big part of how quickly you will lose your belly. I gained 30 pounds with both of my pregnancies, but definitely ate healthier the first time around. This pregnancy, all I craved was sweets, while during my first pregnancy I wanted fruit on fruit on fruit. I definitely gave in to all of my cravings this time (if you didn't notice on Instagram), but I also made sure to eat healthy, nutrient-rich foods throughout the past 9 months. Thus far, I've lost 20 of the 30 lbs I gained (thanks to an 8lb 8 oz baby + breastfeeding), and will be 3 weeks postpartum on Thursday. I feel good about where I'm at, and so happy I can wear my regular clothes again, but I definitely have a long way to go (and a LOT of toning to do - hello fluff!) before I reach my goal. I'm not so concerned about the number on the scale (I don't even own a scale, only know my weight from a visit to the doctor yesterday), but rather the way I feel...and look in a bikini if I'm being totally honest. We set up a small home gym with a treadmill, weights, and stability balls, and I'm planning to slowly ease into a routine. I am going to be documenting this journey in hopes it will keep me in check - if you want to follow along, I'll be setting up a separate instagram account (I'll let you know once it's up + running). Here we goooo (yikes - a little nervous to share these!).

40+ weeks (2 days overdue) pregnant

4 Days Postpartum

1 week postpartum

 2 weeks postpartum

I'm not sure about you, but one of the things that gets me motivated to start working out is something cute to work out in (like these)! Here are a few items currently in my fitness shopping cart:

Trend We Love: Fringe

Fringe is is always an eye-catcher. If it's worn right, it can create that effortless cool look - think Kate Moss! Although, fringe can be tricky to wear. Too much can look like a costume or like you just strolled in from the wild west. Fringe jackets will never go out of style, so it's definitely worth to invest in one. If you are new to the trend, try incorporating it in your outfit with accessories. A fringe layered necklace or bag are the perfect accessories. This Rebecca Minkoff cross-body is a classic and has just the right amount of fringe. Sandals are an easy way to wear the look as well - I've been eyeing these cuff sandals in stone!

How to Transition from Winter to Spring

Transitioning your wardrobe from winter to spring can be tricky - especially if you live somewhere where the temperature can be 70 one day, and 30 the next. The key to dressing for this tricky time is first, checking the weather each morning, and layering. It's always better to have options - I always bring my favorite trench, even if it says it's going to be warm in the just never know. A few of our favorite spring looks (perfectly layered)...

Chic Diaper Bags

You don't have to sacrifice your style for sensibility when it comes to diaper bags. We like to stick with neutrals so it goes with any outfit and can be used for your future babes. Daddy would also probably appreciate a neutral as well ;) If you like color we recommend Petunia Pickle Bottom bags - there's so many fun prints and styles to chose from. This Marc Jacobs bag is 25% off and has amazing reviews - snag it on sale while you can! I didn't want to buy an actual diaper bag so I can use it for traveling after the baby, so I got this Zac Posen tote and this diaper changing kit

Spring Jackets from Nordstrom

trench | tee | denim | heels | Gucci bag (also loving this one) | Ray-Ban sunglasses | stroller

It feels great to be back in regular clothes again! While there are so many great maternity options out there, a time comes when you're just o-v-e-r it. My mama is in town, so we had to make a trip to Nordstrom to check out what's new for spring. As soon as I saw this white trench, I had to scoop it up. The material is so soft, and it's the perfect piece to transition from winter-spring-summer. It can be dressed up or down, which is great. I dressed it down with distressed denim and this tee for my fist dinner out since having Avery. I know sandals and snow do not mix, but it was actually really warm (for those of us with winter)...we've just had so much snow it's taking forever to melt - UHG. Bring on summer.

I couldn't pass up this orange moto jacket for spring - it's so refreshing after primarily wearing grey and black all winter long! It's over-sized so I went down to an XS for a more fitted look. It looks great worn casual with a pair of jeans or dressed up with a pencil skirt. I'm seriously considering going back to Nordstrom to get it in white! These AG pants are my inspiration pants for summer - I'm currently wearing them with a belly band but I'm hoping they will slide right on after the baby! Wishful thinking ;) They are super comfortable and have the right amount of stretch!

Thank you Nordstrom for sponsoring this post

Check Point Coat

coat c/o | dress | boots | bag | sunglasses

Is anyone else addicted to buying coats? They are such an easy piece to pull an outfit together! This one is from Tobi and on sale ($57!). It's lightweight and perfect for spring. Have you seen this new Rocco bag? I am swooning over the print! ...If only my back account would allow it ;) Last week we posted our YSL beauty favorites (here) - I've been using the plump gloss and LOVE it! My go-to nude lip is: spice lip liner + pure zen lipstick + plump gloss.

And yes that is snow in the background...we were re-visited by winter yesterday, UGH! Luckily the temps will be back up in the 50's tomorrow.

A Few Home Updates

Happy Monday, ladies! Hope you had a great weekend...we're running on pancakes and coffee over here ;). I've updated a few things around the house this past week - it's such an ongoing process, but I thought I'd share a few of my favorites with you today.

I finally got this camel print for Avery's nursery framed, and love how it turned out. I really wanted an extra large version of this, but I do not have the wall space, so I ended up with the 8x10 in an oversized gallery frame.

I added a few new prints and a jute rug to our breakfast nook (with IKEA dining table + wishbone chairs). It really warmed up the space, and I'm loving it. This dining table has lasted us since we moved to NYC, and I'd buy it all over again - especially for the price!

Spring Favorites (All Under $150)

Happy first day of spring! Brooke and I can't wait for all the fun things that start happening this time of year - clothing included! Have you heard of Star Mela? Their clothing and sandals are gorgeous but the handbags are what really caught my eye! The detailing and bright colors are so gorgeous and are perfect for the warmer months. This clutch is on my wish list - it would look so cute paired with a white crochet dress! Other items on my radar are these suede Steve Madden pumps. I'm loving the lavender but the mint is cute as well! These SM sandals are under $50 - a great basic to have! I've mentioned before, but I'm a major Nars blush junkie (I have about 10 shades - excessive, I know.) Some of my favorite pinks for spring are: Desire, Angelika and Reckless.
