We're obsessed with these rose gold double-sided earrings that are currently 60% off - just ordered!

Sorry to post another coat but there's just too many good ones! This oversized herringbone coat is beyond and it's on sale!

I just ordered this sweater (which can also be worn as a dress) after seeing it go on major sale - over $100 off!

1. Do you ladies use eye cream for wrinkles?
Yes, we both use this eye cream and really like it - it's super hydrating, and a little goes a long way. No more dry spots and smoother skin around the eyes are the results we've seen! We definitely recommend it - it's a small container, but it lasts for months! We're always looking for new options as well - we've heard great things about this one by BB, but haven't tried it yet. Spoiler alert....we both have eye wrinkles ;). We're doing the best we can to take care of our skin, but wrinkles are inevitable!

2. How did you learn to manage your blog and turn it into a business?
It actually happened organically. As most of you probably know, we were blogging separately before coming together to start Somewhere, Lately. When we started it, it wasn't our plan to turn it into our full time jobs, it was just something we wanted to do for fun because we loved it! After a few weeks (much to our surprise), we were contacted by a few companies to try out their products and share on our blog (we didn't get paid for it, but we received free product). It really took about two years (of posting 5 times/week) to turn it into a business that allowed us the freedom to turn it into our "jobs." As far as learning how to, there are a lot of ways you can learn - research, visiting other blogs (Thrifts and Threads posts great blogging tips every week), but most of our learning has been trial and error. We've learned from our mistakes, and it's really a business where you learn more as you become more involved. We are still learning new things all the time! Bottom line...if you want blogging to be your business, it needs to be something you're truly passionate about...if not, it will show.

3. How did you get connected with companies to monetize your blog?
In the beginning, we didn't! We received free items here and there, but nobody was paying us to promote their products. We started reading (and learning) more and more, and realized a lot of bloggers undersell themselves. They don't realize how valuable their time/posts actually are, and in turn, aren't making the money they have the potential to. We don't get paid for every post we do, and we're very picky about companies we work with (we turn down more offers than we accept), because we want to stay true to ourselves, and our readers. We think the key to working with brands you want to work with is to post consistently, have a clean blog with crisp photos, and be passionate about what you're doing! You can always reach out to companies as well to introduce yourself and your blog (we wouldn't recommend asking them if they will pay you to do a post) but just let them know you're a fan of their products, and you'd love to keep in touch! It takes time, but if you stay consistent, and have great content, it will happen!

4. Do you ever go to blogging events?
Yes! We don't go to as many as we would like to since we are both pretty busy with the babies. The ones we have gone to have been great and it's so fun to meet other bloggers in our perspective cities.

5. Could you share some blogging tips? I'm just starting a blog, working full-time, and have a baby.
Brooke: When we started Somewhere, Lately, I was right there with you - working full-time, and I had a 10 month-old baby. Going along the advice we gave above, I just think you have to stay consistent if you want to gain followers...that means posting to your social channels at least once/day, and blogging 4-5 times a week. It's more difficult to gain a following if you're not consistent. It can be a LOT to juggle with working full-time, and having a baby, but that's why it has to be something you love. If you love it, it's not going to feel like extra work at the end of the day (I used to write all of my blogs late at night after working, making dinner, and putting the babe down, but I was so excited because I loved it). If it feels like it may be too much work, partner up like we did! In terms of coming up with post ideas, you just have to brainstorm! We definitely get stuck for ideas sometimes, but that's when it's best to pull out a notepad and start writing down any and every idea you can come up with for a blog post...once you have a good list, you'll likely have a few great blog post ideas!
Meggan: I agree with everything Brooke said! Something that could help with time-management is doing several posts at once and scheduling them to go live during the week. Maybe sneaking away to a coffee shop for an hour or so during the weekend could be your time to work on the blog!

6. I'm getting married in May, and am having a hard time finding a cute (but appropriate) rehearsal dress...suggestions on a look?
Meggan: I think a white dress with wedges would be perfect for May or even a jumpsuit! I really like this jumpsuit by BHLDN or this one from J.Crew. Some dress options are this strapless Milly dress, this lace one, or this long sleeve one! These shoes are a cute option as well and on major sale!!
Brooke: I've rounded up three options at different price points for you - this one ($240) is great because it's comfortable and beautiful, the lace details on this one ($188) are seriously stunning, it looks like something you'd see at Paris Fashion Week, and I'm in love with the bell sleeves on this dress ($60)!

7. I have a charity gala next month, could you share some formal dress options?
Meggan: Love this Rachel Zoe dress (on sale!), this long sleeve (I wore this to a black tie!), or this embellished one!
Brooke: Have you considered Rent the Runway? They have some amazing designer dresses for less than you'd probably spend on a non-designer. And I loooove that they show photos of girls who actually wore the dress to events! It's a great option for a formal dress, since you'll most likely not be wearing it more than a couple times!

8. What brand of intimates (bras & underwear) do you wear? I've been buying cheaper brands, and they just don't hold up, so I'm looking for other suggestions.
Meggan: I just went to Nordstrom a few weeks ago and got all new intimates! I ended up getting all Natori bras and Hanky Panky undies. I haven't bought myself new bras in SO long it felt so good to get some new ones!
Brooke: I wear Hanky Panky undies and these bras (I've also purchased the non-padded version, but in some tops you can see through the lace...so I prefer the ones with padding) - they are on the pricey side, but they last for years, and they are the most comfortable I've owned! If you're looking for a push-up bra, this one is seriously the best push-up ever!

9. Meggan, how do you avoid brassiness (at home) that's so prevalent with blonde hair? How could I ask my stylist for the color you get (other than bringing in a photo)?
I usually get a partial highlight but my hair is pretty light naturally so my hair stylist (Lauren @ Solo Salon!) recommended doing balayage since I only color my hair once or twice a year, which I really like! Some tips for avoiding brassiness is using purple shampoo, don't use hair products with alcohol, and limit sun exposure.

Pictures from Florabama

I just got back from a quick trip to Orange Beach, Alabama (also known as Florabama) where I was visiting my grandparents with my aunts and mom. My great-grandparents went down there for years and now my grandparents are carrying on the snowbird tradition. It's a cozy little beach town with a lot of cute shops and restaurants. I was supposed to leave Friday night but my flight was cancelled due to weather so I left Saturday AM instead. We ate a lot, played games, walked around, and shopped! It's always fun spending time with the family, I miss them so much already!
It was my first time using my Calpak luggage and I love it! Not only can it fit so much stuff (seriously, I bought 2 throw pillows on vacay and fit them in there!), it's also durable!
My standard travel outfit: sweater (wearing xs) | tee | leggings | sunglasses
My family has a huge sweet tooth so we indulged...daily. #oops
We went to the Naval museum which was actually pretty cool! We couldn't pass up this little jacket - seriously how cute is it!?!
"Flying" planes with his big cuz!
I lived in my favorite destroyed denim the whole trip. Also love this pair and this - both are under $100!
coffee please! Nail color is gelish "sheek white"
I love the palms and how color is everywhere you look!
I get a lot of questions about traveling with a baby - we dedicated a whole post (here) but if you have an specific questions feel free to email or comment below!

My Fireplace Before & After

We've been working on our home since moving in over a year ago. It's been so fun, and we're about to begin the big projects - kitchen & bathrooms. I'm planning to share all the blood, sweat (and I'm sure tears) that are to come with those if you guys are interested in following along (please let me know!!).
Today, I'm sharing our fireplace before & after. It was my favorite home project to date, and while it wasn't a massive renovation, it really updates the space.
This was the fireplace as it was right when we moved in. We painted all of the walls white (Benjamin Moore China White), and had built-in shelves installed.
After the shelves were installed - we also had them painted BM China White (they are not yet painted in this photo).
We ripped off the square tiles (including the forest motif) and mantel, then picked out a slab of slate, and had it cut for the surround and hearth. After the slate was complete, we had a custom mantel made by a local company. I showed them a few different inspiration photos, and we came up with the perfect combination of all the inspo pics. We had the mantle installed, and painted the same color as the walls (BM China White).

We added this mirror from Restoration Hardware above fireplace, and I've ordered this tool set & this log holder to add as well. For now, I have a PB basket + sheepskin as placeholders. I'm finishing up the shelves (still have a few more things to pick up) & once they are complete I'll definitely share those with you as well! Hope you enjoyed this before & after! If you have any other questions, please let me know! PS - I did an interview & a mini home tour with E. Interiors on Monday, you can view it here! Happy hump day! xx

Our Nike Roundup

It's no secrety we lovvvve our sneakers (what mom doesn't though?!). We get so many questions about our them, we thought it would be helpful to put them all in one place so they're easy for you to find! I'm so sad this pair is sold out in my size - dying for an all white pair! Let us know what your favorites are!
Love the pink + camo combo! They definitely add a little somethin' somethin' to an outfit (or your workout!). Buy them HERE or HERE.

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend! We were hit hard with the snow, so we stayed inside most of the weekend...but we had to head out to enjoy our first snow of the season for a little bit. I bought these boots a few months ago, and finally got to wear them - they are seriously warm, true to size, and on sale now for under $40 - so worth it! Now that we've had our snow fix, I'm ready for spring ;). Happy Monday! xx

1. What are your go-to workouts?
Brooke: To be honest, I just got back in the gym for the first time in 3 months...so bad! I do cardio (treadmill interval training, elliptical, spin), ab workouts (Pinterest has great ones!), and Kayla Itsines. Sadly, I did not complete the 12 weeks of BBG...I was on week 7 when the fall colds hit, and I swear our house has been cycling sickness ever since. We have stayed sick all fall/winter long! But I'm determined to complete the whole 12 weeks (starting at week 1 again next week), I'll keep you posted! I saw great progress in the 7 weeks I was doing it, and would recommend it if you're up for a challenge!
Meggan: My fiance put together a work out routine for us that we started the first week of January. I plan on doing a in-depth post on it soon to show you the full routine and my progress so far! But I always start with at least 30 minutes of HIIT (high intensity interval training) on the treadmill and then hit the weights. Each day is dedicated to two muscle groups (ex. chest/triceps) and followed by 15 minutes of abs. Making a fitness plan has really helped stay on track!

2. Where do you find healthy recipes?
We love Skinny Taste - you probably see a lot of our recipes from SnapChat (user name: somewherelately) are from there. Pinterest is also a great source for healthy recipes, and then sometimes we just come up with our own! If we don't have a recipe we're following, we try to stick to these 4 parts: 1. Lean Protein (chicken, turkey, lentils or beans, salmon), 2. Nonstarchy Veggies (lettuce, asparagus, broccoli, cauliflower, peppers, spinach), 3. Complex Carbs (potatoes, sweet potatoes, corn), and 4. Healthy Fats (fish, olive oil, nuts)

3. Meggan, what are your favorite restaurants & places to go out after dinner in Chicago?
A few of my favorite restaurants are GT Fish and Oyster, RPM Italian, Beatrix, Formento's, Girl & the Goat, Table52, Pump Room, Chicago Q, Yuzu Sushi, Green Street Smoked Meats (bbq is my fav!), Mercadito (yummy spicy margs!) and Black Bull. My favorite places to grab a drink (or two ;) are Hubbard Inn, Boss Bar, RM Champagne Lounge, Bar Sienna, and The Matchbox (great martinis). If you're just visiting the city for a night, definitely stop at the Signature Lounge for a drink - the most amazing view ever! I don't get out much anymore so I'm not sure if these are still the cool places to go - LOL! #momlife

4. What kind of music do you listen to when you work out? Can you put together a playlist?
Brooke: I love all kinds of music when I'm working out, but rap/hip-hop & electro-dance music are my favorites to really get me into a workout. If you've ever been to a good spin class, they have the best playlists! JLO, Beyoncé, Ciara, Drake, Justin Bieber (latest album), and Calvin Harris are some of my favorites to work out to. YouTube has some great workout playlists as well!
Meggan: I usually don't listen to music because I work out with Kyle and we talk the whole time. But If I do cardio on my own, I throw on a gangsta rap Spotify station or Pop2k (a lot of Missy Elliot and Nelly, ha!).

5. How do you store your OTK boots?
Brooke: I keep mine in the box laying down...I'm not sure if this is the best way or not, but works for me!
Meggan: I put wine bottles in mine so they keep their shape standing up. If I had a bigger closet, I would totally keep the boxes and store them in there - I would feel more organized that way!

6. I'm looking for a great black sweater. I think I saw Meggan posted one on SnapChat - where was that from?
Mine is from Sheinside (here) but also loving this ribbed one and this tunic - all under $50! There's so many sales right now, it's the perfect time to stock up on sweaters!

7. How do you keep the sparks alive when you move in with your significant other but stay comfortable as well? All I want to do when I get home is change into sweats!
Brooke: I'm so guilty of this as well, it's really hard...especially as a mom who works from home (I've worked from home since before I was married - before I even started blogging), but I think you just have to put in a little extra effort. Let's be honest, there are definitely days when my husband comes home and I'm already in my sweats, but I try to at least look a little put together (spoiler alert- it doesn't always work). When Chad gets home, he changes into sweats immediately, so that's my green light to change as well without feeling bad about it ;). This is why I think date night is so important - it gives you a chance to get back to the times when you were first dating, get dressed up, go out, and spend quality time together!
Meggan: Lucky for me, Kyle loves his sweats too ;) so I don't have to worry about being the only one in comfies. But we keep the sparks alive by pouring a glass of wine, lighting a candle and snuggling up under a blanket. We also like to cook and try new recipes together! But days that I'm super lazy and don't take off my sweats - I make sure I have at least a little makeup on before he gets home so I don't look like a complete mess. We just did a post on cute loungewear (here) that is cute and comfortable!

8. Favorite lip glosses and lipsticks?
Brooke: My favorite lipsticks and glosses are: this one by Mac (in My Flip Side), this one by Laura Mercier (in Amaretto Swirl), and this one (it's a balm, but looks like a gloss on AND is great for your lips!). I just got Burt's Bees lipsticks and can't wait to try them as well.
Meggan: I wear a lot of nude lipsticks and lip glosses. My top 3 of all time are: Laura Mercier bare baby, MAC pure zen, and NARS Belle De Jour. I just bought a ton of pink and red lipsticks (from the drugstore!) to try for Valentine's day and will be sharing those with you soon.

9. How was the transition from the Rock n' Play to the crib?
Meggan: We transitioned when he was about 2 months old. I thought he would sleep in our room longer but he made so much noise when he was asleep, we weren't sleeping well. I started by doing naps in the crib so he could get used to laying flat. For the most part it went pretty smooth, but there were a few nights he was thrown off! It's all such a blur now I can hardly remember!!
Brooke: The transition for us was pretty simple - we were visiting my family in Iowa for the month of August, and Avery had to sleep in a crib there - she was 5 months at the time. I was really nervous and thought she would be awake all hours of the night, but she did a great job, and we put her in her own crib as soon as we got back to NY and never looked back!

10. Will you ladies do home tours? Love your spaces on SnapChat!
Yes! We are both finishing up a few details but plan on sharing soon! Brooke is starting her kitchen renovation in February and plans on sharing the process!

*As always, please leave your questions for next week's post in the comments below OR email us! We love you all, have a great weekend! xx

Wedding Registry Must-Haves

Registering for your wedding is such a fun experience, but it can also be pretty overwhelming! We're sharing a few of our favorites (that we've already tested and love!) from Macy's with you today, along with a few other wishlist items! Macy's is a great place to register, because they always have the b-e-s-t sales, they have pretty much everything you could dream of for your wedding registry, and it's easy for wedding guests to purchase in store or online. They also have a killer beauty department to prep you for the big day (with free shipping + free returns)!
I wanted to register for this espresso maker by Nespresso, but couldn't wait because Brooke has one and told me how amazing it is. And she's right - it makes delicious drinks and saves me trips to Starbucks!
Along with a great espresso/latte maker, you'll need mugs! Coffee mugs like this one are such a fun thing to register for - I love having a lot of different mugs in my home. I will definitely be adding more of these to my registry!
Mixer: I use this every time I bake anything, make pancakes, and it's my favorite to make mashed potatoes with! My grandparents gave this to us for our wedding, and it's so special to me, especially now that my grandpa has passed. He had the same one in white, and it reminds me of him every time I use it.
French Oven: I've wanted a Le Creuset cast iron oven for a long time, and finally got one as an anniversary gift this year & I'm obsessed. Can't say enough great things about it - it's obvious why they are so popular! They are definitely on the pricey side, but they are so worth it...and a great item to add to your registry.
Casserole Dish:  I registered for these dishes for our wedding, and I'm still extremely happy with them (4 years later!). I know quite a few of my friends actually have the same ones & love them as well. Bonus - they come with amazing storage boxes that have come in handy in the 4 moves since we were married, lol!
Flatware: My grandparents got us our first (nice) set of silverware for our wedding & I love these. I think they're such a classic set with a contemporary look and feel. I just saw they also come in rose gold, which now I'm dying for!
My final wedding registry favorite is our Vitamix blender...seriously, put it on your registry! I promise, it's worth it - I use it every day. I've talked to people who've had theirs for over 20 years, these things last forever!

Thank you to Macy's for sponsoring this post!

5 Must Have Oversized Scarves

sweater | denim | heels (short version here) | sunglasses | bag

One of my favorites accessories for winter is an oversized scarf. I found this one at H&M a few months ago and haven't taken it off since. It's been a must in these subzero temps! The best thing about OS scarves is they add so much to a simple outfit. I linked my current five favorites below but my absolute fav is this grey herringbone with tassels. It's so cute and only $35, such a steal!
