5 Beauty Products I Tried & Love

5 seriously great new beauty finds - if you don't believe me, read the reviews!
1. Laura Mercier bronzer brush - we were recently asked about makeup brushes, and my answer was lame...I've used the same ones since high school. They work well (and don't shed, which is the best - I loathe shedding brushes), but when I tried this brush, I couldn't believe how much softer and better it felt on my skin! The brush is technically a bronzer brush, but I used it for loose powder (to set my foundation) as well, and it worked very well, it blends perfectly! It's a splurge, but trust me, it's so worth it - I'm obsessed. It makes me want to get all new brushes!

2. La Mer - The Moisturizing Soft Cream - I've always been on the fence about La Mer after purchasing The Moisturizing Cream, I just wasn't sure it was worth the price. However, I received a sample of the Soft Cream this week and OMG I'm obsessed! Why does it have to be so damn expensive!? I mean seriously, does anyone know why? I want to buy it so bad, but I just don't know if I can pull the trigger. I'd prefer a year's supply of free samples ;).

3. belief First Aid Mask - this mask is really amazing! You put it on (it has a gel consistency), allow to dry, then put a little water on your face and the entire mask literally peels off...such a weird and cool sensation. My face instantly looks brighter, pores look smaller, and overall much better - I never really believed masks had "instant results" until I tried this one.

4. Laura Mercier bronzer - My mom had this bronzer, and I used it when I was with her over Christmas. I recently bought this bronzer from Nars, but was surprised at how much I loved the Laura Mercier (not sure why, since I love everything I've ever purchased by her). I think it's going to be my next bronzer purchase! After I have a chance to use it for a while, I'll be sure to let you know which one is my favorite.

5. Mac Mascara - I've been a fan of my drugstore L'Oreal Telescopic for years, but recently tried this mascara from Mac, and I love it! I've tried evvverryy mascara out there (since my lashes are short and  thin), and I really never thought I'd switch from L'Oreal, but I have to admit Mac wins this one! It makes my lashes SO soft, but full - which is hard to find. I love, love, love it!

**Now I need some help from you - please let me know if you have any suggestions for:
1. Toner - I'm desperate for a good toner. I'm considering this one and this one, thoughts?
2. Setting spray - I would really like to try a setting spray, but don't know where to begin. I know Meggan likes this one, but wanted to see if anyone else had a favorite?

Anything else I should try? Let me know! xx

  1. Fresh makes an amazing rose water toner that you just spray on and it smells heavenly! Also for a setting spray the makeup forever mist and fix is my all time favourite and I had used the UD one for years. Good luck! And thanks for the post. I love reading beauty faves!

  2. Toner balances the pH level of your skin, which should be more acidic than alkalinic, but if you're removing your makeup and using a good cleanser, you probably already have a normal pH. If you want to add a chemical exfoliant, like glycolic acid, to your regime, try the Dr. Dennis Gross Original Peel Pads! They're multi-acid pads that even skintone and decrease hyperpigmentation and wrinkles. You can use them everyday, but I do them a couple times a week. You'll probably also love Good Genes from Sunday Riley which is a lactic acid treatment you use like a night serum. Lactic is more gentle than glycolic, but still effective-I know women who swear by this product and say it will be in their skincare regime forever! Thanks for posting- I love your and Meggan's blog and Instagram!

    1. I cosign everything Anon just said when it comes to Ph balance. I haven't tried Dr. Gross but I LOVE Good Genes and I will dole out the cash for Sunday Riley. The complements on my bare skin are constant and I am prone to hyperpigmentation. Thanks for this post

  3. The antioxidant hydramist by dermalogica (at Ulta) is a good winter toner. It forms a barrier between skin and environmental pollutants. I most my face after cleansing and then wait for it to dry before putting on my moisturizer. You can also spritz it over make up for a refresher although I've never done this.

  4. Clinique is definitely my favorite toner - they make different ones depending on your skin type (dry, oily, combination, etc), so it makes it really easy to choose which one would work best for you. I find it to be pretty gentle, which I love! Definitely recommend! I've never tried a Laura Mercier bronzer, I'm definitely going to look for it the next time I'm at Sephora.

p.s. I love your Snapchats, it always cracks me up, your babes are too adorable!

  5. You should try the Kiehl's Ultra Facial toner! It works so well and is hydrating which is great for this time of year. The bottle also lasts forever---I've used this one forever and recently bought a Caudalie one but was not impressed---defintely going back to the Kiehl's! I also agree with the person above that the Fresh Rose Water one is great too!

  7. If you are into "clean" products, I would suggest looking into Beautycounter. I absolutely LOVE the toning Rosewater Spray. It's made without harsh chemicals and synthetic fragrances which can cause redness, inflammation, and breakouts. It is gentle and made with the best and safest organic ingredients!

  8. Love this post, I can totally relate. I feel like as I get older it is easier for me to justify spending on skincare products, but some truly are just SO expensive. As for toner, I have been loving everything by Mario Badescu lately. I discovered their salon/spa in NYC leading up to my wedding and have been hooked ever since. I have a few products (and they give free samples out in handfuls when you go for an appointment), but have really loved their toner compared to others! -- they are selling this line at anthro, nordstrom as well.

  10. I'm always interested in reading about La Mer products since they’re on the pricey side. I can’t seem to pull the trigger when it comes to purchasing them. Thanks for sharing your beauty products that have been working for ya.

A little off topic...maybe you could use it for your coffee talk post(my favorite posts of yours)I noticed that Brooke recently posted on Instagram that she tried the temporary tattoo. I wanted to know your thoughts on it, I’ve been looking into it however, I was a little nervous.

  13. Best toner on the planet is Biologique Recherché p50. You can only find it at a few places, such bas Rescue Spa in PA (order online they ship anywhere in the US). Its the most amazing thing you'll ever use. Pricey, but you use a tiny bit, once every night or every other night until your skin adjusts. Research it and youll see why people rave about it :)

  14. I swear by the Boots No7 Sensitive toner, I get mine at Target. It's inexpensive, gentle, & doesn't strip my skin but takes off any last trace of makeup. I've tried a few setting sprays, I always go back to Skindinavia. They always e-mail out coupons too!

  15. I bought the Laura Mercier bronzer brush a month ago and love it!! I used to use the MAC brush but the hairs started falling off on my face and it was becoming annoying. Laura Merciers bronzer brush has been the best so far. How often do you guys clean your makeup brushes and what do you think works best for cleaning?

    1. Isn't it the best?! Sooo amazing! I clean my brushes with my facial cleanser - just remember to keep the end of the brush pointed down so no water gets up into where the brush hairs are glued to the handle, because that could ruin the brush! Xo

  18. I received a sample of NYX Matte Make up setting spray at an event last year and have been using it ever since! It comes in a "dewy" or "matte" finish and you can literally buy it at the drugstore for under $10. Love this product, and it bonus it feels great when you spray it on. http://bit.ly/1MZwtLH

  19. I love the UD setting spray also! Haven't found one that I love more. However, I also love the mac mineral water that you spray... gives your face a dewy foundation look rather than a powdery dry look for the winter!
