Not only are Kyle and I so anxious to meet our little guy but we are on somewhat of a deadline to get this babe out (and let’s be real – I’m over being pregnant!). We have a trip planned for his mom’s 60th birthday (the location is a surprise!) and need to have the babies passport by July 3rd. Have you ever seen a newborn passport? Might be the cutest thing ever! My body has been making progress but to speed things up we are trying some old wives’ tales to induce labor. Some of these seem so silly but they are worth a shot!
No. 1: Pineapple
It’s supposed to help soften your cervix and can cause mild contractions. I have been eating pineapple like it’s my job! No seriously – I think I’ve eaten four pounds of it since Saturday. I’m never going to be able to eat another pineapple again without thinking about being pregnant!
No. 2: Walking
We’ve been going on 2-3 mile walks almost every night. It must be working because the baby dropped and he is far down in my pelvis. I could tell right when he dropped, it’s so much easier to breathe! Stairs are supposed to help as well…something I’d rather avoid lol!
It takes a lot for me to think something is spicy – I can pretty much drink sriracha. I made a Mexican quinoa dish last and loaded it with three different kinds of hot sauce and I’m having leftovers today for lunch. Luckily, I haven’t got any heartburn!
No. 4: Sex
Doin’ the dirty is the last thing I want to do right now but if it helps get things moving then I’m in. I told Kyle I think this is just a theory made up by guys!
No. 5: Bouncing on a birth ball
I don’t own one but we have some at the gym. I went yesterday (for the first time in MONTHS) but forgot to try it. If there’s a next time, I’ll definitely try it!
No 6: Nipple stimulation
I haven’t tried this yet but I guess it could be tied in with number 4 😉 I read you should start stimulating them while your having braxton hicks and they will turn into actual contractions.
No. 7: Red raspberry leaf tea
Some people drink the tea or take it by capsule. I had two cups of tea yesterday AM and lost my mucus plug (sorry if that is tmi!) shortly after. Currently sipping on a cup now (insert praying emoji hands here).
No. 8: Castor oil
This will be my last resort. From what I read it tastes horrible (even though the bottle says otherwise) and can just end up giving you a bad case of the runs. Ummmm noooo thank you!!! Although I’ve read lots of success, I’m terrified to try!
No. 9: Acupuncture
I’m getting this done tonight so we will see if it works for me! I’ve never done acupuncture before and I’m a little nervous. The thought of little needles all over my body doesn’t sound great but hopefully it’s somewhat relaxing. I will let you know how it goes!
I woke up last night and had some contractions but they didn’t last long. Must mean something is helping speed things up, right?! Have you tried any of these and had success?
