The Naked Cake

I have wanted to bake a ‘naked cake’ for so long, but always felt a bit intimidated. Sophia’s 3rd birthday was this week, and I knew I wanted to try it out for her special day. I’m SO glad I had my mom to help me – she made the buttercream frosting (which was sooooo good – recipe below), and helped me figure out the best way to stack the layers (we went with 4). We used two boxes of Duncan Hines white cake mix for the actual cake, and it was seriously so good! We topped the cake with sifted confectioners’ sugar and fresh blooms, and I think it turned out so cute. Happy weekend! xx
PS – How cute is her chambray button-down? It’s currently 25% off!

Buttercream Frosting:
1 cup butter, softened
4 cups confectioners’ sugar
2 tablespoons whole milk
1/4 teaspoon of almond extract (you could also use vanilla, and add more or less to taste)
