How did you two meet?
We met in high school through mutual friends! We are both originally from Iowa. We lived about 2 hours away from each other, but stayed in touch throughout college and after until we started Somewhere, Lately.
Why did you two decide to start a blog together?
We were each blogging separately before Somewhere, Lately was born. We were getting a little bored with our blogs and didn’t feel like they were really going anywhere. We decided to come together to start a blog because we were both busy, working full-time, and we felt like it would be a lot less work to maintain a blog if there were two of us.
Is it hard blogging together from different cities?
It’s not hard, but we’re always wishing we were in the same city (Meggan lives in Dallas & Brooke in New York)! It would be easier b/c we could host events together, take photos for each other, and work (physically) together on a daily basis, but we make it work as best as we can! We text all day long – literally all day eerrrrryyyyy day, so we’re always on the same page.
How/when do you decide what to post each day?
A lot of times, we write our posts in the morning (like today!) and other times we have our content ready to go the night before. We try to follow a editorial calendar, but sometimes we like to be more spontaneous and post whatever’s on our mind. A lot of times our schedule comes down to deadlines when we’re working with brands.
How do you decide who posts when (blog and social)?
We post 6 days a week and usually alternate days, but sometimes we both end up posting 5+ days a week depending on our scheduled posts for that week. We don’t have any sort of schedule for social media posting – we both post to insta, instastories, etc as we go. People get so confused by our insta stories and who’s posting what (which we totally understand lol).
Do you guys ever argue?
We’ve never argued! Luckily we are both pretty easy going, have similar taste, and have figured out how to work well together! We’re super thankful for this, because we know parterships are not always easy.
What’s the best part about having a blog partner?
It’s a built-in support system – you always have someone to bounce ideas off of, someone to “pick you up” if you’re having a bad day, and since we’re both busy in our own lives, it’s great to have a partner to help with the workload. Also, whenever we together, it’s just so much FUN! We’re always working towards the same goals, and as cheesy as it is, we just think it’s the best!
Do you guys ever want to go your separate ways and have your own blogs/social media?
No! We truly love being partners, and have zero desire to go back to blogging separately.
How do you determine content when you might have different views or styles?
Our styles aren’t exactly the same, but they’re pretty similar and (we think) they work well together. We have brainstorming sessions to think of new blog post or series, and keep a running list of ideas/inspo.
Are your husbands friends too?
Yes! They met through us, but (thankfully lol) they get along soooo well! They have really similar personalities and values so it’s a super easy/natural friendship!
Would you guys ever open a store/start a line? I love the hat you designed and it made me wonder!
We’ve definitely talked about it, but we just don’t have the time right now – but maybe in the future! And thank you!
