My Microblading Experience

I’ve never really been “into” taking care of my eyebrows – I’ve got them waxed/threaded maybe 10 times in my life, rarely filled them in, and pretty much just neglected them. There’s obviously an eyebrow craze happening so I decided to hop on the bandwagon and get them microbladed! I went to Marissa at Brow Bar (she’s the owner) and LOVE her. She is an OG microblader and I highly recommend going to her. I didn’t take a proper before or after picture because I was rushing the morning of the appointment (per usual) and it slipped my mind. You can see what my brows looked like before here – not terrible but nothing special. The picture on the left is after my appointment and the right is a couple days after. This is a current picture of what they look like, much more natural! Also…why didn’t someone hand me a lint roller for my hat?

What is microblading?
Microblading is semi-permanent tattooing that lasts 1-2 years depending on your skin type. It’s done by using a blade that creates hair like strokes just like your real brows!

The experience
My appointment took about 1-1.5 hours. When I got there they immediately put numbing cream on my brows while I filled out paperwork. When I got in the chair, Marissa gave me the rundown of how it all works. She drew on the shape of what they would look like and picked the color for me. I’m pretty easy going and trusted Marissa so I just let her do her thing. If you’re nervous, you can always bring in pictures for inspo or go in for a consultation first.

It hurt but it was definitely tolerable. She gave me a ball to squeeze which helped take my mind off it a little. Honestly, the worst part was the noise! You can hear your skin slicing/scraping…definitely made me a little queasy lol. I would suggest listening to music or a podcast so it’s not as loud. She went over each brow 2-3 times which I wasn’t expecting. After she did the first round I was like yesssss it’s over!! Only to realize that was a false alarm.

The healing process
You can’t get your brows wet for 10 days…yes 10 days!! Showering was a little difficult so dry shampoo was my best friend (let’s be honest, it already was). 😉 Your brows will also scab and peel off but you cannot pick or touch them! They got a little itchy at one point and I seriously just wanted to rip them off. They also look REALLY dark the first few days, especially for blondes. I wore a hat most days to cover them up because I looked like I had caterpillars on my face (as you can see in the pictures). The color settled after a week or so. My SIL has dark hair/brows and got them done shortly after I did and hers didn’t look as intense as mine. I went back for a touchup after 6 weeks which was a quick appointment. She filled in some spots where the color wasn’t as dense and I was out the door!

Is it expensive?
This obviously depends on your city and the place you go but mine cost $300 (including the touchup). This is really low compared to some of the places I looked up so I was excited about that.

The verdict
I’M OBSESSED and can’t believe I didn’t do it sooner!! I’ll definitely be going back once they start to fade.
