Our (Healthy) New Year’s Resolutions

Can you believe 2018 is already over!? Time seems to keeps going by faster and faster. We both love setting goals for the new year and wanted to share our health focused ones with you guys!

Drink More Water – When Brooke and I did the water challenge earlier this year I felt SO good (drank a gallon a day). I felt more energized, my skin was clear/glowing, and I didn’t feel the need to constantly snack (I’m a grazer!). I want to feel like this 24/7 and plan on drinking at least two liters a day. I used this calculator to find out what my intake should be.
Work Out 3-4 Times A Week – I put this on my list every year and I’m pretty good at sticking to it. Don’t get me wrong, I fall off the wagon from time to time but hoping that happens less this year! My husband and I just built a home gym – we got a treadmill, TRX system, dumbbell set, dip station, kettlebells, and a pull up bar. So there’s really no excuse to not work out!
Cut Down On Sugar – This means no more buying chocolate when I hit up Trader Joe’s…seriously my weakness! If I have it in the house, I have no self control.
Say No More – I say yes to way too many things and it just ends up causing me TOO MUCH stress.
Adopt An Attitude For Gratitude – This morning I was complaining to my husband about how much pain my wisdom teeth are in. Then my friend, who’s 5 year old son is battling leukemia, sent me a text to update how he’s doing. It really put things into perspective and I realized I need to focus on being more grateful. Here I am complaining about a toothache while our friends are going through this. At the beginning or end of the day my husband and I decided we’re going to tell each other something we are grateful for!

These leggings are a soft jersey material and perfect for everyday wear (I wouldn’t work out in them). I love paring them with these classic Reebok sneakers for running errands, going to the park, or just grabbing a coffee! Also, it’s the perfect time to order the leggings because they’re on sale for $25 – such a steal!

Meal Prep Weekly – We have been busier than ever lately, and the first thing to go is cooking healthy meals for dinner. Instead of ordering out so much, I want to meal prep/plan weekly, so we are eating 3-4 meals a week at home.
Cut Processed Sugar – I have a huge sweet tooth, and this year I want to cut processed sugar as much as I can while still being realistic. I think everything is fine in moderation, but want to consume a lot less processed sugar. I’ve done it before, and felt so great so I’d like to get back to that.
Continue With FWTFL – I feel like I’ve finally found a healthy lifestyle that works for me, but I do need to be more consistent with it. I’ve realized I need the accountability (I thought I’d be okay to do it on my own), so I will be continuing to register for a new round of FWTFL. A new round starts today!
Be More Active – Instead of setting a hard goal like ‘hit the gym 3 times/week,’ I just want to focus on being more active this year. Get outside, go on walks, go biking with my kids, and get to the gym.
Wake Up Earlier – I’m definitely not a morning person, but whenever I wake up early and have extra time in the morning, I get so much accomplished! Ideally, I’d like to fit in a Peloton ride or a run 3 days/week before my kids wake up! This will also make me go to sleep earlier, which I also need to do ;).
Workout In The Morning – Going off of the last one…I’ve realized if I don’t get my workout done in the morning, it’s likely not going to happen that day. I can’t tell you the last time I worked out in the afternoon or evening. As the day goes by my to-do list just gets longer, and motivation to workout goes out the window, can anyone relate?! I need to get up and get it done right away!
Meditate – Meditation is key to reducing stress, helping to control anxiety, improving sleep, and decreasing blood pressure. I feel so much better when I spend 5-10 minutes meditating each morning. I recommend the Headspace app!

New workout gear always motivates me to be more active ;). I’ve been so impressed with the pieces I’ve purchased from Reebok this year. This 1/4 zip top is a great piece to have in your closet – it’s perfect for layering, running errands, an outdoor workout, or throwing on when you go to-and-from the gym. I love all of their leggings, and just added this pair to my cart – can’t believe they’re on sale for $29!

Love these Reebok sneakers – the color combo is so good and they are incredibly comfortable!
