Sitting down to answer your questions about coloring my hair at home during quarantine! I’m one week in and still really happy with the way it turned out! Let me know if you have additional questions! xx
What did you use to color your hair?
I used this gloss from dpHue (on sale!), I mixed black and dark brown (a 50/50 mix). My hair dresser recommended this gloss because it doesn’t damage your hair the way box dye does. It’s available in 11 shades!
Why did you mix black and dark brown instead of just doing dark brown?
I had so much blonde in my hair, I was nervous the dark brown wouldn’t do enough, but I knew I didn’t want jet black hair, so I took a risk and it turned out exactly like I had hoped! The dark brown has very warm undertones, and the black toned the warmth down.
Looks so good! Is this semi permanent or permanent?
It’s semi-permantnet.
How long does it last?
I’m not sure how long it lasts since this is my first time using it! I noticed a lot of color washed out the first time I washed my hair, however I couldn’t tell once I dried my hair (it didn’t look any lighter or like any of the color was lost), only noticed in the shower.
Did you apply it evenly? Or different on roots vs ends?
Yes, I applied it as evenly as I could.
How long did you leave it on for?
I left it on for 30 minutes. The bottle says 3-20, but I left it on for a total of 30.
Does the color transfer to white pillowcases?
It didn’t! I don’t go to sleep with wet hair, so I can’t speak to that, but mine has not transfered to my pillowcase at all.
Did anyone help you with the back? How did you do it?
Nope! I did it, and it was so simple. I parted my hair into 4 even sections (2 on each side of my head), and clipped up the 3 sections I was not working on at the time. It was easy to see if all the hair was evenly coated with the gloss this way. Once I finished each section, I brushed through it with a plastic brush to be sure everything was as even as possible.
Why did you want the blonde out of your hair? I’m thinking of doing the same & it looks so good!
Thank you! I was just so ready for a change! I have had my hair balayaged for 4-5 years now, and loved it but wanted a change/was drawn to more natural looking hair. Being at home with no sign of salons opening anytime soon helped as motivation lol!
Does the bottle have enough product for more than one use? Or is it like box dye, one and done?
I have so much left over! I used two bottles since I mixed two colors, but even if you only use one color, I think you would definitely have enough for multiple uses! It didn’t take a ton of product to completely cover my hair and the bottle is a decent size!
Does it stain the skin?
Yes lol! My hands were awful right after doing it, I would highly recommend wearing gloves. I was more careful around my face, but my neck had stains for a day or two. Not terrible, but you’ll want to be careful.
Does it cover grays?
I’m not positive because I don’t have grays yet, but I would think so because it’s very pigmented!
How messy was it?
Not messy at all! The consistency of the gloss is pretty thick, making it easy to work with and less messy. It didn’t get all over the way boxed dye does (I’ve done that in the past, too).
How often do you wash your hair?
Once-twice a week.
Is this close to your natural color?
Yes, this is very close to my natural color!
